Vaccines dog boarding kennels require
Of 792 kennels with stated vaccine rules, 96% require rabies, 88% DHPP, 83% Bordetella, 28% canine influenza and 24% leptospirosis.
The four shots most kennels ask for
- Rabies
- Required by nearly every kennel and by state law for dogs. A current certificate from a veterinarian is the usual proof.
- DHPP
- One combined shot covering distemper, hepatitis, parainfluenza and parvovirus. Some kennels call it DA2PP or DAPP.
- Bordetella
- Protects against kennel cough. Many kennels want it given at least a week or two before the stay.
- Canine influenza
- Required at a minority of kennels and recommended at others. Ask before you book if your dog has not had it.
What to bring
Most kennels ask for the records before drop-off day, by email or upload, so they can be checked without holding you at the counter. Keep a photo of each certificate on your phone.
